Sylex expands its MTP portfolio with a new 16-fibre option  

The new MTP®-16 product family is based on a new version of ferrules, connectors and adapters. Utilising the same external footprint as the existing 12-fibre MT ferrule, MTP®-16 is available in one or two rows of 16 fibres and leverages all the proven features and technology of traditional MT ferrules.

The connector hardware offers a new keying feature in contrast to the centred keying feature on the traditional 12-fibre MTP®. This new keying design, standardised by TIA 604-18 (FOCIS 18) and IEC (61754-7-3), ensures proper mating of the MTP®-16 connector without inadvertently mating the 16-fibre connector hardware with standard MPO-compliant hardware.

Thanks to having the same external footprint as a 12-fibre MT ferrule and a higher fibre count, this connector offers higher fibre density and is an ideal solution for direct coupling to the emerging 16-fibre parallel optic links (8 Tx/8 Rx, e.g. 400G QSFP-DD, OSFP), aggregation of multiple 8-fibre parallel optic transceivers and other custom cable solutions requiring higher fibre density.

The unique optional feature of this new ferrule is the angled front face in the Multimode version. Introducing the MM APC version of 16F MT ferrules (with the secured Y-offset) opens new possibilities to use this interface for the rising 400G applications where return loss specification is really critical.
